Neoliberal globalisation and the triple crisis of 'modernisation' in Africa: Zimbabwe, the Democratic Republic of the Congo and South Africa

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the problems of neoliberal globalization in Africa, which includes the process of primitive accumulation, nation-state building, and democratization. The author examines the process of accumulation in Zimbabwe, the war in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in which nation-state formation is the root, and the democratization of South Africa, concluding Africa's challenges in achieving modernity are almost impossible to overcome.

The power of partnerships in global governance

Article Abstract:

Aid relationships are re-termed as partnerships between donor and recipient countries, where the donors wish to be partners in strategies determined and owned by the recipients themselves. A novel analysis of power relations is required to understand the transformations taking place under the rubric of partnership.
