Remembering September 11: photography as cultural diplomacy

Article Abstract:

The photographic exhibit After September 11: Images from Ground Zero was formed in Feb 2002 and will travel to 60 countries by the end of 2004. These 27 images by Joel Meyerowitz can be seen as an attempt to shape public memory about the World Trade Center attacks and an inquiry about the role visual culture plays in US foreign policy.
