Russia, NATO and European security after Kosovo

Article Abstract:

The NATO air campaign against Yugoslavia brought about a dangerous turn in Russian-Western relations, although tensions have since eased. The anger and suspicion engendered on the Russian side will not easily dissipate however. Russia is uneasy about NATO's post-Cold War transformation, and repairing relations will need political realism in Russia and restraint from NATO.

Putin's gamble

Article Abstract:

Russian President Vladimir Putin took a significant risk in offering fully backing to the US-led campaign against terrorism following the attacks of Sep 11, 2001. Russia and NATO countries now have security interests in common, and the West is also aware that Russia can play a significant role in fighting global terrorism.
