The water issue in the Palestinian-Israeli peace process

Article Abstract:

The dispute over water resources and ownership is an important aspect of the Palestinian-Israeli peace process. Israel has denied Palestinians any involvement in water management for the West Bank and Gaza Strip since the 1967 Six Day War, and has limited any increases in Palestinian consumption. Therefore, Israel's usage of water per capita is far heavier than that of Palestinians in the Occupied Territories. Limited implementation of the 1995 Taba Agreement, aimed at solving the dispute, means that the issue of water supplies is being left to the final-status talks. The only solution would seem to be a fair apportioning of water between the two sides.
