US democracy promotion in the Arab Middle East since 11 September 2001: A critique

Article Abstract:

The implementation of the US democracy promotion policies across the Arab region, in particular Arab countries and its results are examined. The three reasons for mixed results includes, firstly, democracy is a part of a wider set of the US interests and concerns with which it is frequently in contradiction, second, the US President George W. Bush administration overlooks the problems its implementation may cause and lacks clear ideas, third democracy promotion policies have limited outcomes.

Economic reform in Brazil: an interview with Eliana Cardoso

Article Abstract:

Brazilian Secretary for International Affairs Eliana Cardoso discussed several key aspects of the country's economic reform program. She noted that the current economic initiatives have helped reduce inflation and promote stability within the economy. However, Cardoso added that other facets of the policy such as its privatization and industrial reform programs may significantly alter many Brazilian industries such as financial services and banking.

This article evaluates political reform in the Middle East. The author, focusing on the monarchies of the oil producing countries, argues that political reform is being introduced and the greatest advocates of reform are the tribal elites.
