The amazing vanishing Second Amendment. (response to article by David C. Williams in this issue, p. 822)

Article Abstract:

An approach that subtracts interpretive justifications from understanding the 2d Amendment destabilizes the foundations of American constitutional rights. What is used at one time to defend constitutional rights can be used later, thus it is important to never mitigate the importance of established interpretive approaches. When the Constitution receives newly fashionable interpretations, courts receive a signal to decrease the importance of citizen rights in their decisionmaking.

The straight and the crooked: legal accountability in Ancient Greece

Article Abstract:

The ideology and structures of legal accountability existed in ancient Greece prior to the emergence of democracy, despite historians' perceptions to the contrary. The euthyna was one such accountability structure. Its evolution indicates how democracy itself evolved from aristocratic beginnings into a participatory framework for controlling official actions and holding officials accountable.
