Data.txt's $249 Time Matters earns a slight edge over Gavel & Gown Software's $399 Amicus Team 2.0 in a comparison of two legal PIMs, due to Amicus' comprehensive contact features, dynamic link to the Timeslips billing program and its better customer support. Amicus continues to provide an easy-to-use interface, but it lacks a genuinely dynamic link to Timeslips. Amicus Team brings networking functions to Amicus Attorney, which may be used as a stand-alone product. Amicus' installation is slightly more difficult than Time Matters' procedure, and Time Matters includes a training mode for working with sample data. Amicus is well organized, allowing users to easily group all information related to a specific case in one file. One of Time Matters' best features is its filtering function, which lets users search all the appointments on the network based on any criteria the user desires. For example, users can search for all items related to one case or attorney.

All items such as tasks, schedule items and deadlines are distinguished with small, colorful icons that visually verify their type. Legal Wizard is constructed with overlapping databases including client, user and case information. All entered data is automatically entered in related fields. Legal Wizard also includes basic billing capabilities that provide minimal yet functional customization. While Legal Wizard is not sophisticated enough for busy law offices, it is a viable alternative for new or part-time lawyers looking for a basic billing and case organizing program.
