Talking it through

Article Abstract:

Law firms being adversely affected by interpersonal conflicts should consider engaging the services of professionals trained in conflict and dispute resolution. Many businesses are employing strategies designed to improve communications and ease dispute resolution, but institutional aspects of law firms have impaired the migration of these techniques to the profession. One of the most effective techniques in raising a concern with a co-worker is to focus on behavior and not the person and attempt to manage their reaction through careful listening.

Carving out your niche: by capitalizing on personal interests - from animals to zinfandel wine - any lawyer can grow a practice

Article Abstract:

An attorney can become successful and sought-after by developing a special niche of expertise in a more obscure area of the law. Litigators who specialize in wine or equine law, animal rights, or the music business, attract clients from all over the country. For example, Walter Lindstrom, Jr., has built his practice around helping obese people fight discrimination, and other niche practitioners have been equally successful. Profiles of five attorneys specializing in niche areas are included.
