Chaos and evolution in law and economics

Article Abstract:

Consideration of chaos theory, path dependence and model evolutionary theory provides a more robust model than does classical economic evolutionary models applied in law and economics, particularly for broader economic and legal institutions and problematic areas such as bankruptcy. Classical evolution has been used to support the assumption that present institutions and systems are presumptively the most efficient because they have survived. The path that evolution has taken, random occurrences and efficiencies based on past environments compromise assertions that present equilibria are the most efficient.

The 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial: "commercialization" and Reaganism

Article Abstract:

Advertisements during the 1986 Statue of Liberty Centennial highlighted renovation and restoration, and encouraged Americans to give donations to save the statue and the concept of the American dream. The advertising campaign was closely connected to President Ronald Reagan's re-election campaign. Advertisements insinuated Reagan's ability to create a dream world by stressing darkness, death and corrosion as reminders of the Carter-Mondale government. Reagan constantly spoke of renovation, restoration and renewal during the Centennial celebrations.
