Consumer protection in the European Union: an analysis on the directive on the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees

Article Abstract:

The proposed EU directive on the sale of consumer goods and associated guarantees, as approved in April 1998, will provide a minimum level of consumer protection across the EU. The directive establishes legal guarantees which create remedies for goods not conforming to the sales contract and commercial guarantees which create remedies for goods not conforming to the seller's express promise. The directive should set the stage for a higher level of consumer protection in the future.

Roadmap to success: an international congestion management approach to the European Union traffic problem

Article Abstract:

The European Union must take a central role in providing a solution to traffic congestion problems in EU countries. Expanding the road infrastructure will not solve the problem. A range of methods should be used and all methods should complement one another. Such methods include urban planning, technological innovations for managing traffic, increasing use of public transit, transportation regulation, and economic incentives for motorists to reduce traffic congestion.

The European Union's self-defeating policy: patent harmonization and the ban on human cloning

Article Abstract:

The article criticizes exclusionary regulations such as the ban on human cloning in the European Union's Directive on the Legal Protections of Biotechnologies as a deterrent to biotechnological investment. The EU's harmonization of patent law attracts biotechnological investment, but their ethical stand will cost them market share.
