Crime and punishment in the Netherlands, 1981-1999

Article Abstract:

The crime rates in the Netherlands increased for almost all offences from 1980 to 1999 according to a police data. A focus is presented on six offences namely residential burglary, motor vehicle theft, robbery, serious assault, rape and homicide. It is found that the system became increasingly efficient in identifying the offenses that have a greater likelihood of ending up in conviction.

Crime and punishment in Canada, 1981-1999

Article Abstract:

Police records indicate that Canada experienced a substantial fall in rates of serious crimes in the 1990s due to an aging population and an improved economy. There is, however, mixed evidence on whether the Canadian criminal justice system's response to serious crime influenced crime trends during the 1990s.
