Firms look to automate finances, management

Article Abstract:

Law firms are becoming interested in automating their practice management and financial systems, perhaps a result of the realization that unintegrated systems can lead to some problems. Firms which cannot find a single integrated system are compromising on the open systems approach based on Unix minicomputers, system interfaces, and commonly available relational data bases. Practice profitability analysis, executive information systems and electronic connections with clients are among the innovations possible when practice management is automated.

Use rises in midsize law firms; computer survey

Article Abstract:

The ABA's Legal Technology Resource Center has completed its latest Survey of Automation in Mid-Size Firms, and it shows that the number of law firms interested in technological applications is increasing steadily. Results indicate that more midsize firms are acquiring office computers for attorneys, with 77.1% of attorneys stating they have them in their offices. Local area networks are also fulfilling more varied functions. Law firm automation now addresses the needs of both attorneys and support staff.
