Former rainmaker sues Pillsbury

Article Abstract:

Philip Heller was brought into the Los Angeles office of San Francisco-based Pillsbury, Madison and Sutro as a lateral hire on the strength of his reputation as a skilled rainmaker. He is suing the firm for forcing him out in slightly less than a year in a manner designed to ensure that he will not be a competitive worry for the firm. Pillsbury declines much comment while the litigation is pending but points out that Heller had left several firms after short stints.

Firm sues ex-client for liability; L.A. case first of its kind?

Article Abstract:

Hughes Hubbard and Reed has sued Shearson Lehman Brothers for potential civil liability, for not taking the law firm's advice and not making it privy to important information. The offering of securities for the limited partnership Houston Biotech Partners in 1987 and 1988 is the specific matter at issue. The lawsuit follows a 1991 suit in which Shearson alleged that Hughes Hubbard's negligence was the reason the underwriter missed a securities sale's deadline.
