Fraud against European public funds

Article Abstract:

In order to address issues of fraud against European public funds, a study commissioned by the European Commission proposed the creation of a common legal space, which unifies the existing fifteen different legal systems throughout Europe in common legal purpose and structure while maintaining decentralization. The author discusses the penal rules and the principles which guide this common legal system.

Professional crime across the Finnish-Estonian border

Article Abstract:

The problem of professional Finnish criminals involved in the illegal importation of narcotics, alcohol, and cigarettes from Estonia into Finland, among other crimes, is discussed. The authors maintain that due to poor communication between Finnish and Estonian law officials the criminal activities continue to flourish, and request international investigations.

Subcontracting military power: the privatisation of security in contemporary Sub-Saharan Africa

Article Abstract:

This article discusses the differences between mercenaries and privately owned security companies. The author, using the Executive Outcomes and Sandline International Ltd. as case studies, examines the security companies' role in Sub-Saharan Africa, and the application of international law to control their operations.
