Implant documents on CD-ROMs; $25 buys a computer disk containing 15,000 pages of discovery

Article Abstract:

A CD-ROM project has made many of the documents in federal breast implant litigation available for distribution. The documents are imaged by DocuQuest Technologies and sell for $25 per disc or $40 for a simple floppy-disk index created by the plaintiffs' committee. Both can be used with a number of litigation-support and data base programs. Federal district Judge Sam C. Pointer, who initiated the system in Sep 1992, hopes it can be used by parties in state-court breast implant cases as well.

FDA action spurs implant suits; evidence unearthed in earlier cases led to call for a moratorium

Article Abstract:

The Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) Jan 6, 1991 call for a moratorium on silicone-filled breast implants has sparked a new round of litigation from implant patients. The FDA based its moratorium on information from two suits: Hopkins v Dow Corning Corp and Cardinal v Dow Corning Corp. Plaintiffs' attorneys allege that Dow Corning misrepresented silicone implant safety to the FDA. The company denies any deception took place.

Boy Scout gun suit rejected; few rulings support plaintiffs' lawsuits for firearm injuries

Article Abstract:

The dismissal of a suit against the Boy Scouts of America for the wrongful death of a boy from firearm injury is the latest example of the courts' rejecting claims against gun manufacturers and advertisers. For several years the trend has been for suits against gun manufacturers to be unsuccessful. Most cases are based on negligence, although gun control advocates hope to use liability arguments against gun makers.
