Arrangements to get overflow work from other attorneys as a way for sole practitioners just starting out to derive some income and a reasonably full working day are discussed. Discounted fees and lack of client contact can be the disadvantages of such overflow work.

Sole practitioners and small firms should plan for what to do when a natural disaster happens. A disaster recovery file with essential information should be kept in a secure, off-site location. Insurance which may be of help includes flood, property, and business interruption policies.
