Article Abstract:

The National Law Journal's list for 2000 of the 100 most influential US attorneys is given and has such changes as a larger number of corporate counsel than earlier lists and employee lists reflecting a decrease in partnership loyalty. Novel writer tells how to make switch from law; Richard Dooling's novel covers favorite subject: neuroscience and free will

Article Abstract:

Richard Dooling, former employment-discrimination attorney at Bryan Cave L.L.P. and the author of several novels, including one 'Critical Care' soon to be released as a Sidney Lumet movie, advises attorneys who wish to make a similar career switch and write full-time that enjoying writing as an attorney, especially the writing of multiple drafts, is a prerequisite. Rewriting is always work and tends to be tedious, and this goes for fictional writing as well.

Article Abstract:

James Finkelstein, the founder of the National Law Journal who has held various executive positions over the newspaper's 20-year history, states that the decision that there were enough lawyers to support a national publication prompted the founding of the newspaper. There were 400,000 attorneys across the US and ethically, firms found it much easier to establish branches nationally. Lawyers also had a commonality of interests due to the start of the large law firm.
