No: keeping standards high protects the public

Article Abstract:

Lawyers concerned about the provision of legal services by paralegals and other unlicensed professionals are not trying to limit competition but to make sure that all legal service is provided by competent professionals. Task forces who have studied the unauthorized practice of law have substantiated this concern with findings of misrepresentation by some individuals who advertised themselves as competent to provide legal advice. Legal assistants have their place but should be supervised by licensed attorneys.

High cost of doing good; more law grads would enter public service with loan-forgiveness plan

Article Abstract:

More law students would enter public interest law if there were a comprehensive, nationally funded loan forgiveness program for students entering the public interest field. The average starting salary for first-year associates at large law firms averages $60,000, while public interest lawyers can only expect about $25,000 as a starting salary. Since many law students finish law school with student debts of about $52,000, it is not hard to understand the dearth of public interest lawyers.

Express yourself: stand out from the crowd with careful choice of letterhead

Article Abstract:

Attorneys should remember that the firm's visual identity is a key communication source. The letterhead is a part of this identity, and the paper quality, type style and symmetry of the letterhead's design are all important elements. Sometimes, names are the only thing which distinguish sole practitioners and small firm lawyers from each other. In this situation, what the letterhead communicates is especially important.
