Predicting ethical values and training needs in ethics

Article Abstract:

The results of a mail survey of 226 state government employees to determine their ethical values and their training needs in ethics were presented. A structured questionnaire was used to account for differences in position in the organization, job characteristics and attitudes to ethics. The results showed that variable sociodemographic factors such as position in the organizational hierarchy, extent of contact with persons outside the organization and sex are likely to influence the ethical views of employers and employees. These factors would have to be considered in determining organizational training needs in ethics.

Ethics in employment law: the Americans with Disabilities Act and the employee with HIV

Article Abstract:

The Americans with Disability Act has some loopholes in the perceived legal protection that it provides for employees infected with HIV that present challenging ethical issues for corporate policymakers. The Act specifically provides protection against discrimination in public accommodations, employment, education, transportation and communications to disabled persons. However, discrimination persists in various ways in employment settings. Given the inability of the law to fully protect the right of the disabled, the actions of employers are vital in maintaining the dignity and rights of employees with HIV.
