Rights & obligations of the arbitrator

Article Abstract:

The 1977 Ethics for Arbitrators in Commercial Disputes Code outlines arbitrators' obligations but does not clearly define their rights. Obligations include a duty to be fair, disclose information regarding possible prejudice, and faithfulness to the trust implied in the relationship with disputing parties. Rights should include disclosure of only relevant personal information, flexibility, and to tell stories of arbitration to educate other arbitrators as long as they do not violate the agreement's confidentiality.
