Roving safety representatives

Article Abstract:

The British Rural Agricultural and Allied Workers announced a project in 1995 to increase worker participation in agricultural health and safety, in which the union would choose nine roving safety representatives.The scheme was started in 1996 with modest governmental support and with some financial aid from the European Commission. Achievements of the program have by the end of 1997 been mixed and limited by resource constraints. The concepts has potential use in small businesses in other industrial sectors.

PRISM at Yorkshire Water

Article Abstract:

Yorkshire Water of the UK uses a commercial audit package called the Professional Rating of Implemented Safety Management (PRISM) to manage safety conditions. PRISM has helped the company to develop a company-wide safety awareness that reduces the number of industrial accidents. The ten modules in the PRISM software have been customized to track 58 audit areas/zones.
