The Burton Awards for legal writing, started in 2000 to battle inflated diction in the legal profession, are described. Clear, direct writing will also lead to more victories in lawsuits and appreciation from clients.

Protecting genome privacy proves hard; Congress is torn between personal fears, research needs

Article Abstract:

The genetic privacy issues raised by the new gene testing are discussed. Whether a new law should be a broad health information privacy statute or a law which addresses concerns unique to genetic data will be discussed.

The efforts of parents of children with pseudoxanthoma elasticum to control research by requiring signing a contract to share ownership and profits from the research using their blood and tissue bank with their support group PXE International are discussed.
