Sustainable use of endangered species under CITES: is it a sustainable alternative?

Article Abstract:

The Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) of Wild Fauna and Flora needs to be amended to allow the sustainable use of some endangered species. Despites CITES' successes, many animals listed under the treaty are not being adequately protected. Allowing sustainable use would encourage local people, and local and national governments to more diligently manage and protect their resources.

The WTO's reading of the GATT Article XX chapeau: a disguised restriction on environmental measures

Article Abstract:

The author describes the World Trade Organization's reading of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade's provision for resolving conflicts between liberalized international trade rules and environmental protection measures. Suggestions for improving the WTO's rule to allow national governments to take unilateral action to protect the environment are provided.

Foreign investment in Russia's oil and gas: a framework and lessons for the future

Article Abstract:

The author outlines the political and economic risks faced by foreign investors seeking to invest in Russian oil or gas ventures. Laws applicable to such foreign investments are analyzed and prospects for future investment under the current, relatively favorable, regulatory climate are examined.
