The Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act of 2000: closing the gap

Article Abstract:

The Military Extraterritorial Jurisdiction Act of 2000 establishes US civil jurisdiction over civilians accused of crimes while accompanying US military forces abroad. The law is generally a positive step in the direction of preserving the rights of Americans accused of crimes in foreign countries. It should help improve foreign relations.

Article Abstract:

The authors discuss the US Supreme Court's decision in Crosby v. National Foreign Trade Council, in which the court struck down a Massachusetts law imposing sanctions on companies doing business with Myanmar as being federally preempted.
