The National Joint Council of the Public Service of Canada: a vehicle for bargaining and dispute resolution

Article Abstract:

The National Joint Council of the Public Service of Canada (NJC) is a consultive agency set up in 1944 to encourage efficiency in the Canadian public sector. The NJC seeks to accomplish this by acting as a go-between for the Canadian government and its public employee organizations. With this goal in mind, NJC comprises bargaining-side representatives and employer-side representatives. NJC's use of alternative dispute resolution merits study by other countries including the US.
