Technological Maturity Proves a Valid and Important Concept

Article Abstract:

Industrial planners have been using the concepts of industry and product life cycles for some time. Now, the technological maturity concept is becoming useful in planning research and development, and technological strategies. Both the industrial life cycle curve and the technology maturity curve have four phases: embryonic, growth, mature and aging. The foam cushioning products industry is used as an example to provide a comparison of the industry and technology life cycles. Charts are included.

A prescription for more than pills

Article Abstract:

Hereford and Worcester social services department placed a social worker in a general practitioner surgery at Upton, Hereford and Worcester, England in an experiment in applying the NHS and Community Care Act 1990. A lack of co-ordination between social services and health agencies had created a gap in adult services. A survey of 50 long-term patients found that 90% would benefit. Traditional multi-agency case conferences were abandoned and complementary work proved advantageous to the patients.

The hazard of selecting mutual funds based on returns

Article Abstract:

Finance theory suggests return and risk of mutual funds are related. People often choose mutual funds based on returns, but a higher return logically indicates higher risk. This theory has been verified by research, and shows risk changes depending on investment objective classifications. Investors need to include more than return rates, even inside objective classifications, when choosing mutual funds.
