The state of paperless courts: a report on the continuing evolution of e-filing

Article Abstract:

Most observers agree that electronic filing (e-filing) of documents will one day be universal in courts, but many are surprised at how slowly this is actually happening. States currently break down into three basic groups: states, such as Alabama, that recognize that e-filing is coming, but have not yet committed to it; states that have begun pilot programs and are expanding slowly; and states that are moving ahead as fast as their bureacracies and budgets permit.
