The accounting revenue division in international telecommunications: conflicts and inefficiencies

Article Abstract:

Persistent traffic and payment imbalances between countries necessitate a thorough study of the characteristics of the accounting rate system and how differences in demand, technology, and market structures between carriers affect the current accounting rate issues. It is often argued that high accounting rates cause traffic imbalances and hamper the growth of the telephone markets. The study aims to understand and address the problem by utilizing a theoretical analysis that could produce an efficient accounting rate that will benefit both carrier-countries.

Demand for telephone usage in India

Article Abstract:

The price elasticities of demand for aggregate telephone use in India have been measured using national-level time-series data and panel data of annual observations on 19 Indian states. The own price elasticity of aggregate telephone usage from annual time series data has been determined to be -0.58. The elasticity of usage demand with respect to the share of services sector in GDP is 10.8. The estimated price elasticity from the panel data is close to that obtained from the time-series regression.

Econometric modelling of Spanish very long distance international calling

Article Abstract:

A model of very long distance calling between Spain and a groups of Oriental and African countries reveals that there is a significant own-price elasticity of -1.31 and positive reciprocal calling effect of +0.69. The results also indicate that the estimated elasticity of the outgoing traffic to the volume of foreign tourism stands at +0.22 and that the estimated elasticities are within the range determined by other empirical studies.
