District attorney orders videotape of school bus beating seized moments before airing: prosecutor says broadcast would inflame racial tensions

Article Abstract:

The Terrebonne Parish district court in Houma, LA, has yet to rule in State v. Mart on the aggravated assault charges against the 17-year-old defendant or the motion by television station HTV to release the bus security camera video of the beating in question. The district attorney has argued that release of the tape would inflame racial tensions and would compromise fair trial rights. HTV claims the tape should be returned because authorities failed to give 10 days notice before seizing it.
