Never the same Hluhluwe-Umfolozi feeling

Article Abstract:

The Earthwatch volunteers were sent to Hluhluwe-Umfolozi Park (HUP) in South Africa in 1996, after the end of apartheid, which was carefully managed and protected against outsiders, to collect data on animals and the environment in the Park. The HUP was an untouched paradise, a game park where survival was the central part and over several expeditions, one could observe the changes and difficulties in sustaining the park through rapid political and economic overhauls.

The Americanization of Theron Ware

Article Abstract:

Harold Frederic's sense of Americanism and his conflicting views on cultural heterogeneity were illustrated in his book 'The Damnation of Theron Ware.' The contrasting representations of the Irish and the Chinese in the book signify his acceptance of the white Irish and repulsion for the colored Chinese. Frederic's conflicting positions on cultural intermingling were illustrated in his protagonist's solitary walks and his desire for an Irish immigrant.
