BBC Films plans production of four big budget movies a year

Article Abstract:

BBC Films has unveiled plan that calls for the production of a maximum of four films annually, each backed with budgets of 12 million pounds sterling to 15 million pounds sterling. David Thompson, head of BBC films and single drama, however, stressed that majority of the feature films that his department is producing annually will remain to cost below 5 million pounds sterling. The first high-budgeted film of BBC Film is the movie entitled Mary Queen of Scots, which is being scripted by Jimmy McGovern and produced by Raging Star Films and BBC Northern Ireland.

Independent Image bags Kilroy show

Article Abstract:

Independent Image has forged a contract with Robert Kilroy-Silk to produce the Kilroy talk show. Under the terms of the agreement, which is estimated to be worth around four million pounds sterling a year, Kilroy-Silk will emerge as the new chairman of Independent Image with a substantial shareholding in the company. Independent Image, set to institute changes for the talk show's tenth season in the autumn of 1998, said that it intends to take advantage of the synergies that will be generated by the deal.

ITV readies science show

Article Abstract:

ITV has contracted Granada Television to produce two series of "What Will They Think of Next?" The series, which will be hosted by Carol Vorderman, will be composed of six 30-minute episodes that will start in the autumn of 1998 and a 12-part series that will be presented to viewers in late 1999. The popular primetime show, which will feature the latest advances in the world of science, will also chronicle the construction of the Millenium Dome that is expected to be completed over a period of 18 months.
