Bored with the USA?

Article Abstract:

US television programmes are becoming increasingly unpopular in the UK. In the first 11 months of 1996, they accounted for barely 4% of the 40 most popular programmes each week, and are now being increasingly moved out of peak viewing times by broadcasters. In many cases, UK television audiences like programmes which have been rejected in the US, or reject ones which have been popular in the US, and this can mean that broadcasters run out of episodes prematurely. The most successful US television programmes in the UK are currently television films and feature films.

Stars in our eyes

Article Abstract:

When reputable films from the cinema are shown on the television, audience figures prove that these are not always as popular as expected. As a result British television stations have gone into film production for themselves or have concentrated on other types of programming. Comedy films have gained in popularity, but no one film had an audience of more than 15 million during 1995 and the average audience has been 9.6 million. When a film is scheduled to appear will also affect its popularity with viewers.

Deja view
