Bristol fashion

Article Abstract:

Broadcast Film and Video Services (BFV), Bristol Post, and Applecart Television Facilities are independent post-production companies which are based in Bristol, which is the biggest broadcasting centre in the south west of England. All rely on the Natural History Unit of the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC), for a large proportion of their work. BFV's general manager, Bridget Warmington, has stated that there has been less work in autumn-1995 because the BBC has been cutting costs, but that she expects 1996 to be better.

Balance of forces

Article Abstract:

The independent television broadcasting facilities market in Northern Ireland is relatively small, at a value of only 2 million pounds sterling. This is because BBC and UTV programmes are generally post-produced in-house, with little work going to independents. UTV and BBC have also not sought third-party facility work in the same way as the counterparts in mainland UK. There is a good balance between supply and demand, making the market relatively secure.

New Eire style

Article Abstract:

There is now strong demand for the services of independent television post-production houses in Ireland. This has already prompted expansion in the sector, with The Picture Co, for example, moving to larger premises and possibly investing in new equipment. Demand is likely to continue to rise as more broadcasters set up in Ireland, with a second state channel and independent station TV3 both planning to begin broadcasting in the near future.
