Single minded

Article Abstract:

The new joint venture between Yorkshire Tyne Tees International and Granada/LWT International is expected to act as a single overseas sales promoter for television broadcaster ITV. Key television broadcasting executives feel ITV firms must co-operate more closely to successfully compete in the international market. CTE, the distributor for Carlton Communications, is also seeking to become ITV's overseas ambassador, but its Managing Director, Philip Jones, is not overtly seeking collaboration with ITV's other distribution operations.

Stars and strife

Article Abstract:

Pearson Television has become one of the largest independent suppliers of television films to US networks following its purchase of ACI in Nov 1995. However, it is now facing competition in the US from ITV dual-franchisee Granada, which has reached two deals with ABC. Pearson's reputation has diminished slightly, and some observers predict that the company will need to undertake extensive restructuring, with its television operations being sold or spun off. There are even rumours of a possible management buy-out.
