BBC seeks to emulate Teletubbies

Article Abstract:

BBC Broadcast has commissioned Tell-Tale Productions for a 250 x 25-minute series of a children's program patterned after the successful "Teletubbies." The new daily show, due for filming in early 1999 and for telecast in 2000, is intended for three- to five-year old school children. The series will feature six life-size characters that will play and learn as well as mirror the other activities of the show's target viewers. The series producer will be Tell-Tale's Iain Lauchlan and the joint producers/directors will be Will Brenton and Robin Carr also of Tell-Tale.

Shed to spring Jailbirds on ITV

Article Abstract:

Shed Productions, the new independent production company formed by Brian Park, has been awarded by ITV with the contract to make a 10 x 60-minute series entitled Jailbirds. Jailbirds, which is scheduled to be broadcast in spring of 1999, is expected to take the place of The Bill, which will be converted into a 60-minute format starting autumn of 1998. Jailbirds, which is believed to have a budget of approximately 5 million pounds sterling, will be based on real-life stories from inmates but will be set in a fictional women's prison in London, UK.
