Article Abstract:

Women, especially women workers and middle-aged, jobless women, are experiencing numerous problems in a China where poverty is no longer a great equalizer and capitalism is new and unregulated. In terms of employment, for example, some estimates report that women constitute over 60% of the layoffs in China although they make up only 39% of the workforce. China discriminates against women in many appalling ways despite its supposedly egalitarian past. Some women's issues reflect a culture which values the lives of sons over daughters made worse by a government one-child policy.

Preparation helps in swimming successfully from Alcatraz to San Francisco, CA. Would-be-participants in the open-water swimming event, in which more than 2,000 people are expected to participate, may join open-water swim club or do some swimming in the San Francisco Bay to prepare themselves for the event. Swimming in the San Francisco Bay or in any cold swimming place also helps in conditioning the body to cold water which swimmers are most likely to encounter when they participate in the swimming event.
