Covering campaign finance: following the twists and turns on the money trail

Article Abstract:

Developments in presidential campaign finance have highlighted the role of journalists in making the public aware of the influence of money in the political process and in acting as protectors of the public interest. Public awareness of campaign finance is becoming more and more dependent on investigative journalism and the ability of the news media to identify the actual source of campaign funds. Journalists who are responsible for covering the financial aspect of presidential campaigns face significant challenges.

Covering Ali, discovering an era

Article Abstract:

Muhammad Ali, a legend in boxing history, had an enormous impact on sports writing since sportswriters were forced to make a connection between sports, society and politics. Ali, a black Muslim, changed the culture of sports. The emergence of black athletes became evident with his rise to stardom. He was not only being covered but was actually being 'beatified.' Moreover, Ali's presence in any affair can be strongly felt for he lends prestige to any occasion by 'dressing' up the place.

Covering politics - is there a female difference?

Article Abstract:

Women were not expected to cover the 'hard' news in the 1940s as they were relegated only to 'soft' news. Events that took place such as the candidacy of Geraldine Ferraro somehow increased the number of women reporters in the industry. Male reporters even admit that they were sensitized because of their female colleagues. However, the gender of a reporter has since become irrelevant with modern women already getting into high profile political reporting jobs.
