Double act

Article Abstract:

The UK government has pledged to support international growth in the film and television industry but there are doubts as to whether the industry's place in government structure is the correct one to see this materialize. The Department of Trade and Industry, with its remit for practical assistance on overseas trade, has shown considerable commitment to the broadcasting sector but the industry comes under the responsibility of the Department of National Heritage. Other initiatives for boosting the international position of British film and television are considered.
