EAS

Article Abstract:

The broadcasting commission has postponed the deadline for installation date of EAS equipment because many technical issues had still to be resolved making it difficult for many manufacturers to get their equipment certified and put it on the market. The decision of the Commission to extend the date to January 1, 1997, will make more models available in the market and reduce the prices of EAS equipment. The Commission has allowed unattended operation of the transmitter for which the EAS is designed. The use of RBDS in operating EAS is voluntary.

Directional antennas

Article Abstract:

A licensee may move to an adjacent FM channel for upgradation by short-spacing with other allotments if there is no overlapping of the expected interfering contour and the protected contour. The FM station can reduce the antenna's height or use a directional antenna if it wants to minimize its power. The advantages of using an FM directional antenna include the station's ability to upgrade and provide more competitive signals. It also allows the station to focus a stronger signal on a target population.

Sponsorship identification

Article Abstract:

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) of the United States stipulates that the identification of sponsorship is essential for broadcasting an advertisement. The law also states that the mode of payment for airing the advertisements should be clearly mentioned. The radio station has the right to add the identity of the advertiser. Listeners can lodge a complaint with the FCC against a radio station for broadcasting an advertisement without the name of the sponsor.
