False notes?

Article Abstract:

BBC (British Broadcasting Corporation Ltd.) local radio stations look set to have an increased emphasis on music output. BBC Controller of the English Regions Nigel Chapman will publish new guidelines on this issue, and other aspects of local radio output, in Nov 1997. Local commercial radio stations are expressing concern about the prospect of more music on BBC stations, and are angry that the BBC can make policy changes easily, whilst they are bound by regulatory requirements. Financial considerations and falling audience figures lie behind the BBC's policy change.

Talking shop

Article Abstract:

Paul Robinson has been appointed general manager of Talk Radio, a commercial radio station. His brief is to boost the station in order to attract larger revenues and appeal to a larger audience. The radio station has seen two major editorial overhauls since it was introduced in February 1996. However, Robinson will probably not make too many major changes. He believes the station has enormous potential and hopes that in 1997 Talk Radio will become an important player in the commercial radio sector.
