Article Abstract:

Mentorn Barraclough Carey is planning to form two new alliances with European television production companies, to gain a share of the television market in Belgium and Germany. Mentorn had previously made alliances with companies in Holland and Spain. Mentorn is also looking to expand its operation into drama and entertainment production. Chief executive, Tom Gutteridge, sees the new partnerships as a way of creating joint production projects with European producers. Gutteridge points out that his new European partners have skills vital for television production in the UK.

Off the shelf television

Article Abstract:

The UK Independent Television Commission (ITC) is to permit masthead programmes on terrestrial channels from Sep 1998. ITV, Channel 4 and Channel 5 express excitement about the new programming format, which involves co-operation with magazines, and several projects are in development. However, satellite and cable broadcasters are angered by ITC's new code for masthead programming. They maintain that it is much stricter than the one used in masthead programming trials on their stations and that it will stifle the development of the format.

Streets ahead

Article Abstract:

Coronation Street will be broadcasted four times a week in the Autumn of 1996, even though the cast and crew on the production team will have to cope with working seven days a week to keep up with the additional storyline. The additional episode is expected to be broadcasted on Sunday's at 19.00 hours, although this has not yet been confirmed. Any further additions to the program would mean using two production teams to work in conjunction with one another, rather like the production methods used in Australian soaps.
