Fur starts flying

Article Abstract:

There have been claims recently that natural history film-makers are failing to take risks with their choice of subject matter. They are accused of focusing on big cats and primates, thus overlooking the species and environmental issues which are less appealing to the general public. Indeed, the 45 films shortlisted for the 1996 Panda Awards are dominated by pumas, sharks, lions and gorillas. Some observers feel that film-makers should not give in to commercial pressures and should widen their coverage.
