Fox acquires Diana tribute

Article Abstract:

Fox broadcast network has acquired the rights to The Real Diana Princess Diana tribute programme, in a move that could lead a series of high-profile US contracts. The American network, which reportedly outbid ABC for the program, paid between $700,000 and $1.2 million for the programme to Liverpool, UK-based Planet Wild, a Planet 24 subsidiary. The Real Diana will air on July 16, 1998 in line with the launching of Fox's new Fox Files news magazine. The show will feature home-movie footage and still photographs of Diana, an interview with Earl Spencer and a tour of the Spencer family estate at Althorp, UK.

Insider sale dealings

Article Abstract:

The MIP-TV and MIP-COM programme markets have enjoyed rapid expansion ever since they were launched, and are now seen as the most attractive one-stop destinations for newly deregulated territories. There is no firm information about sales so far, but it seems very likely that the markets will continue to see strong growth. The most successful genres are animation, long-running drama and wildlife programming.

Free trade

Article Abstract:

Some observers believe that European television quotas prevent a truly free and competitive market from emerging. However, their campaigning often uses simplistic and misinformed arguments. It would be much more advisable to abolish quotas gradually, as this would be the best way of structuring a new market which would allow genuine competition to be established.
