How to get the best service and the best deal

Article Abstract:

Digital outside broadcast (OB) equipment, for television, costs around 8,000 pounds sterling per day to hire. Rates will vary depending on rental periods and availability of trucks. British Broadcasting Corporation Events Executive Editor Mike Ward often finds he is unable to employ the OBs he would like due to budgetary constraints. Camera technology is constantly being upgraded to allow innovative shots particularly of sporting action. New 16.5 metre digital trucks will be used for important sporting occasions. Some experts have suggested the trucks have reached their ultimate size.

Lifting the lid on set-top boxes

Article Abstract:

It can be very difficult to become familiar with all the jargon associated with set-top boxes (STBs). Essentially, all STBs process compressed digital signals carrying multiple television, audio and information services. They decode any encrypted transmission and select the service for display on ordinary televisions. All digital STBs use new Conditional Access Subsystem technology to provide advanced subscription services and a range of interactive services through modem connection to the telephone network.
