Models of local radio broadcasting in Greece and North Rhine-Westphalia

Article Abstract:

Two models of radio broadcasting created in Europe different parts of Europe and with similar goals of public participation are compared. The broadcasting model in North Rhine-Westphalia started in 1990 and offered an independent radio station based on a 'Two Pillar' regulatory model. It has successfully introduced local community productions and involvement. The Greek endeavor failed largely because of government restrictions on local involvement.

Digital television, online connectivity and electronic service delivery: implications for communications policy (and research)

Article Abstract:

The digital television supposed to be launched in 2010 would offer a wide variety of services like better picture and sound quality, increased number of channels and online connectivity to the internet through a specific medium. The ongoing developments within and around the fields of public electronic communications are reviewed and the changes for research and policy design are outlined.

Based on content, style and target groups, the consumer-oriented television programmes in China are undergoing drastic changes to meet the peoples growing demands. The Chinese television industry is reaffirming privileges to the elite, tempting the aspiring groups and are embodying and reinforcing the increasingly visible class divisions in society.
