Papers apologize for Clampers accusation

Two dailies, The South London Press and The Sun, have apologized in print for accusing that portions of BBC 1 docu-soap "The Clampers" were faked. The two newspapers addressed their apologies to the program's producers, admitting that the accusation were factually not correct. In addition to the apology, The South London Press has also consented to pay damages and legal fees to the show's executive producer, Stephen Lambert, and series producer Kim Duke. Meanwhile, BBC is still attempting to obtain an apology from The Mirror for making accusations about "The Clampers."

Article Abstract:

UK television industry officials are to investigate Carlton Television over allegations of faking documentary footage and overspending on drama productions. Carlton had begun to rebuild its reputation within the industry, after a shaky start in 1993, when it was criticised by the Independent Television Commission for being too ordinary. Established documentary makers are concerned about the adverse affects the allegations may have on regular documentary viewers. Carlton is accused of overspending by 1 million pounds sterling on its Heat of the Sun drama.
