Playing in the minor league

Article Abstract:

The BBC has admitted it needs a new approach to meeting the programming needs and interests of children, although it must also improve its competitiveness in the profitable international children's programming market. The programme Blue Peter has been running for 37 years, and while BBC management claims it has continuously adapted to changing times, others believe the programme should now be withdrawn. The BBC is required under its remit to provide educational children's programming, with the management claiming it seeks to provide entertaining as well as informative programmes.

Article Abstract:

KPMG's head of international practice, David Murrell, forecasts that the number of independents could fall from 800 to 100. Industry experts say that the larger independents, needing to increase their profitability, are being pressured to consolidate.
