Granada's Grimleys set for spring launch

Granada Television has received a contract to produce ITV's pilot comedy drama, The Grimleys. The 6 x 30-minute series, which will feature entertainer and actor Brian Conley, is scheduled to be aired starting spring of 1999. The program is al about a group of schoolteachers on a council estate in the West Midlands in 1975. Pilot broadcast of the show, which was held on July 5, 1997, lured 4.6 million audience, achieving a 42% share. The new series is being directed by Martin Dennis, whose works include Cardiac Arrest and Men Behaving Badly.

Watchmaker Productions, which is noted for its entertainment productions, has commissioned Eoin O'Callaghan, the award-winning drama executive producer of BBC, to help develop new drama projects. Watchmaker intends to expand its drama productions using television and radio as media. O'Callaghan, which specializes in drama in his 10 years with BBC, announced that among the first projects he will help develop is a feature film titled A Stone of the Heart, a TV comedy program and a thriller series.
