Article Abstract:

The original idea for the six x 50-minutes adult thriller series 'Invasion: Earth' was developed by Andrea Calderwood, who was at that time head of drama at BBC Scotland. The storyline was written by Jed Mercurio, who had been a science fiction fan for many years. The series was granted a budget of 5.5 million pounds sterling, a large part of which was taken up by computer-generated special effects. It was produced by BBC Scotland in association with The Sci Fi Channel, and will be broadcast by BBC1 from May 8, 1998.

Article Abstract:

There were a number of complications associated with the production by Abbey Films of ITV's four-part drama serial 'Bliss.' Most importantly, Michael Stewart, who wrote the 1996 pilot of the serial, also wrote a drama about scientific investigators for BBC1, and this was shown before 'Bliss.' Jane Tranter, executive producer for drama at Carlton, was very interested in the idea for the serial, and acted as executive producer. However, she believes that Stewart acted inappropriately.
