The challenge: monitor the movement of Tanner and red king crabs in a large marine protected area

Article Abstract:

The researchers from US Geological survey in Glacier Bay of Alaska has performed a difficult task of keeping a check on the movement of tanner and the red king crabs with the help of a Lotek map 600 RT. The joint efforts of the submersible data loggers and by keeping a constant check on the tanner and the red king crab had helped the researchers to find the actual transfer rate of the red king and tanners from the marine protected area to a non protected fishing zone.

A review of tagging methods for estimating fish population size and components of mortality

Article Abstract:

Population size, total mortality and components of mortality that are frequently of interest to fisheries biologists is estimated for a brief review of population models that can be used based on recaptures, returns or telemetry relocations of tagged fish. There could be greater accuracy and precision of parameter estimates from tagging studies when such improved techniques are incorporated.
